Tech Tips for Projector Lamps
Aging Bulbs
Projector bulbs dim as they age. If your projector image seems dimmer than usual it may be time to replace the lamp.
Check the number of hours your lamp has been in use through the projector menu system.
Most projectors offer about 2,000 hours, however, the expected life of a lamp will vary based on the environment.
Make Them Last
There are several things you can do to increase the life of your lamp.
- Ensure that there is adequate clearance near the intake and exhaust vents
- Keep the environment clean and dust-free
- Clean the air filters every three months – more often if there are contaminants or a great deal of dust in the room
- Follow the proper shut-down sequence for your projector. Do not pull the plug while it is in its cooling stage
- Reduce projector brightness. In most cases you will increase the lamp life with a bit of reduction in brightness and no one will notice the reduced lumen output.
