For her documentary about crows, producer Susan Fleming needed to capture activity in the nest, without disturbing the occupants.
With help from Videoscope Sales Representative, Larry Au, Production Consultant, Joe Freitas and Camera Technician, Phil Andrade, she got the solution she needed.
Her documentary, A Murder of Crows aired on CBC's The Nature of Things in 2009.
After the shoot, Susan sent us a thank you email, excerpted below.
Dear Joe & Larry,
I wanted to drop you both a line to say thank you again for all of the help and brilliant technical support you gave to us for our recent crow shoot.
Joe, you managed to pull off the impossible figuring out how we can get that little Sony HD camera 60 feet up in a crow's nest and still monitor picture and have it record to an HD deck on the ground below.
And Larry, your excitement for the thrill of figuring out something that has never been done before was infectious.
The system you guys designed for us worked like a charm.
I am forever grateful to both of you for how you jumped in and re-invented the wheel for us. You really pulled out all the stops to figure out how to do something that had never been done before despite our tight time constraints and modest budget.
Joe, I am so impressed and in awe of your technical prowess. We put your technical know-how to the test big time and you pushed the technology to its limit for us.
My D.O.P., Nick de Pencier, had told me you guys were the best and you proved it in spades! This was my first time working with Videoscope but because of your Herculean efforts it will not be my last. From our first meeting to the last camera test with Phil, it has been a complete pleasure working with everyone on your team.
