"Elvis"
goes High Definition
with Sony XDCAM HD
Elvis Presley tribute artist Stephen Kabakos performs Elvis hits
from the 50's, 60's, and 70's. His show "The Way it Was,"
is a high energy musical extravaganza, backed up by a 12-piece
band, the TVB Ensemble, including backup vocals, strings and
horns.
To create demos, Steve decided to have his performance
videotaped. In
2005, Videoscope provided digital betacam equipment for a
similar shoot. This
time, we proposed a high def production that would be just as
cost effective, but could be used into the future.
The 3-camera HD shoot took place at the Rose Theatre in
Brampton. Videoscope provided the Sony XDCAM HD cameras and
technical support. For the best quality, we supplied HD lenses,
including a 400mm (40 times zoom) and a wide angle lens.
Videoscope
Camera Specialist, Joe Freitas, comments on the shoot:
"It's
a great show. Steve's performance is captivating.
Sometimes when you are watching him, you have to blink to
bring yourself back to reality.
It's easy to believe you are actually watching Elvis.
He's that good.
And the
Rose Theatre is a beautiful venue; completely state of the art.
The technical staff did a phenomenal job."
Steve
Kabakos comments on the shoot: "It was a pleasure to
work with everyone at Videoscope.
The quality and sheer resolution of the material is
incredible. High Def
was definitely the right direction to go.
I am extremely pleased with the outcome!"
As the TVB
Productions website says, Steve was "born to play Elvis
Presley from the Golden to the Vegas years." He first
performed in Collingwood in 1996 and only five years later he
was the Grand Champion at the "Images of the King 2001" World
Competition in Memphis, Tennessee.
