Videoscope has been staging events for the LCBO for 20 years. Why? “That's easy,” says George Draginov, LCBO A/V Coordinator. “TRUST! I keep coming back because they're just that good. Every show I've done with Videoscope has gone without a hitch. Simply, l trust them for quality, from concept to execution.” The Event Videoscope Staging Consultant, Steve Dunstall and his team enjoy staging LCBO events, “Every year is different. Every year is a new challenge.” In 2006 the challenge was to design a custom set that re-created an LCBO Store front. “It was the biggest hit at the conference,” says Draginov. “It was perfect for the All Managers Conference theme: ‘What’s in Store?’”
This three day event in the Bassett Theatre at the Toronto Convention Centre brought together all LCBO store managers, over 1,000 participants. It included a trade exhibit, break-out sessions and presentations. The Assignment
Flexible use of three screens was part of the set’s genius. The circle in the center of the “Store” sign is a rear projection screen, where the presenter appeared. PowerPoint and video showed on the two side screens. This flexibility is provided by the Folsom 1604 switcher. Multiple inputs and outputs allow presenters to use computers, VTRs, DVDs and camera inputs. For live cuts between the three room cameras, Videoscope provided a switcher to feed the Folsom. Lighting changed the look of the set completely for the evening entertainment events: a performance by singer, Shawn Cullen, skits by LCBO staff. The Mike Carbone Show turned it into a television studio for Carbone’s quick witted comedy. The set was transformed again when the LCBO used it for a second event “Competing for the Future.” This annual LCBO Trade Day for suppliers, directors and managers involves a day of presentations and an evening of Elsie Awards to honor suppliers. For this event the circle screen is gone and the slogan takes centre stage (see photo below). The Results The set was definitely a big hit but there is more than “the look” to successful staging. For George Draginov, it’s the staging team that counts: “l know Steve and his crew will always be there for us, under any circumstances. Steve's main priority is client satisfaction. When the client is happy, he's happy. In addition, Videoscope provides us with something a lot of companies don't and that is accountability. They've always got the job done without ever compromising quality in favor of efficiency.”
