Audio/Visual Enhancement for Ogden Funeral Home

Ogden Funeral HOme

Videoscope installations at Ogden include projectors and screens
in the chapel and visitation rooms. As well, two remote controlled cameras in the chapel send the service to overflow crowds,
and to a DVD recorder. A central control room serves to keep
equipment organized and out of sight.
Ogden Funeral Home has served the diverse population of Scarborough since 1948. Located on Sheppard Avenue East, near Midland, it has a long history as a family business. The Ogden management team is very pro-active in providing enhanced services to customers. .

General Manager, David Garvie explains: "With the advancement of technology in all aspects of our lives, it was only a matter of time before families would begin requesting more advanced audiovisual services as part of their overall funeral experience. We wanted to be ahead of that service curve so we sat down with the Videoscope staff to brainstorm potential changes to our existing system to take us to a higher service level."

Videoscope System Consultant, Lorne Feld, C.T.S.*, has been working with Ogden Funeral Home from the beginning. "Our mission was to make it so user friendly that absolutely all the staff would be comfortable with it," says Lorne.

"We needed to be sure that any equipment would be simple for our staff to use," says Mr. Garvie. "There is nothing more concerning than standing before a large group, attempting to negotiate a technical maze and not being able to fulfill the client's request. I don't think we are different from most companies today, in that the majority of employees are not tech savvy or simply have limited computer knowledge. It was important for us to have a system that would be easy for everyone to use."

After review and consideration, the Videoscope Design and Engineering team recommended a Creston Control Panel, with all the necessary operating components in one location, touch sensitive and with easily understood graphics.

Videoscope's in-house Crestron programmer designed the touch panel with this in mind. The control panel is wireless, for staff to use in the chapel. It controls the projector, screen, audio system, CD and DVD, selects computer sources and controls the cameras, either manually or via presets.

"Videoscope has provided teaching seminars to educate our staff about the panel's features," adds Mr. Garvie. "We believe that with this new system we are in a better position to continue growing with the expectations of our clients, adding to our current audio/video system as future needs arise."
