Ivey
Classrooms at the Exchange
A Videoscope
A/V Installation

Project
The Richard Ivey School of Business has taken a bold step into
the heart of Toronto's Financial District, right into The
Exchange Tower at the corner of King and York. Part of the
University of Western Ontario, Ivey offers business courses,
including a 17-month Ivey Executive MBA program to be housed
here at the ING Leadership Centre in Toronto.
This new ultra urban setting is a contrast to the gracious 30
acre parkland campus at the Ivey Spencer Leadership Centre in
London, Ontario.
Challenge
But both locations require top quality Audio Visual Systems. For
the two new classrooms in the Exchange Tower, Ivey called Rodd
Rossoni, Videoscope System Consultant and his Installation Team
who had already worked at Spencer. Through consultation with Max
Silletto, Teaching Technology Coordinator at Ivey, they
developed simple-to-use, but highly effective multimedia
classrooms.
Scope
In each classroom, the lecturer and the audience are covered by
three Sony wall-mounted cameras and four Audio Technica ceiling
microphones, with a Shure wireless mic for the presenter. TOA
amplifiers and speakers ensure even audio throughout the rooms.
Classes can be recorded to DVD.
In the main classroom, the feeds are also tied into a Tandberg
Videoconferencing System for live interaction with other Ivey
classrooms (in London, Ontario and Hong Kong) and off-site guest
lecturers.
The lecturer is the key to the whole system.
Everything is handled by a user-friendly AMX control system via
a touchscreen panel at the lecture desk.
Computers, documents, and video can all be displayed on the
custom Da-Lite 16:9 screen. Multiple windows are generated by
the RGB Spectrum SuperView 4000 graphics processor. All visual
inputs go through it live to the ceiling-mounted Sharp XG-C430
LCD projector. The graphics processor can handle up to 12
inputs: 6 from computers, 6 from video devices. It is tucked
away along with the VCR/DVD combo player and DVD recorder in a
small rack built into the lecture desk. Other A/V infrastructure
is discreetly housed in a closet-sized rack room.
Results
Videoscope delivered a complete package to Ivey, providing
installation, operations training and support, as well as a
maintenance contract.
The installation has been so successful that Ivey has contracted
Videoscope to provide the same A/V for a new classroom at the
Spencer Leadership Centre campus in London.
Teaching Technology Coordinator, Max Silletto comments:
"Great job and on time too. It was a pleasant experience,
working with the staff at Videoscope."
