XDCAM HD in the Field with DOP, Andy Jakebsons
DOP
Andy Jakebsons had his first experience with Sony XDCAM HD, shooting a
feature-length production, THE LIMITS with the PDW-F350. Here are his
comments about the camera:
The
PDW-F350 is a great camera!
For those familiar with Sony Betacams, this camera feels familiar. It is
well capable of capturing a fantastic image. However
it has some extras. It's lighter and more compact for handheld and tight
locations (and production vehicles.) I have come to love the flip out color
screen. It's great for checking colors without a monitor and operating in
positions off the shoulder.
I have
also seen the advantages of shooting with the non-linear storage. So many
times we were able to review what we had just shot, and jump right back into
recording a second later, with no risk of accidentally recording over
anything.
So many people can't afford the price tag of shooting in HD, so they resort to
"pro-sumer" cameras. These cameras don't have the optics or the
control to be able to fully capture a great image. With XDCAM HD, you can
get a professional image, without the price tag, and with the bonus features
I wish other cameras had.
