XDCAM HD records to the Sony PFD50DLA or PFD-23 Professional Disk media. The optical disk media provides random access to media clips, creating a thumbnail image menu as you shoot.
For the  PFD-23, recording at the highest quality, 35 Megabits per second (Mbps) will give 60 minutes of material. The 25 Mbps bit rate is compatible with HDV 1080 editors and recorders, with 90 minutes of recording time. At the lowest rez, 18 Mbps, you get 120 minutes.
The new 50 GB PFD50DLA disk doubles the recording time for all data rates.
