| | SRW-5800 | Videoscope sells, rents and services Sony HDCAM Decks.
| Sony developed the HDCAM SR series decks to provide the highest quality, high definition processing for acquisition, editing, mastering and distribution. As well as their ability to play multiple frame rates, these decks can handle the 4:4:4 sample rate preferred in high end animation and blue screen work.
4:4:4 sampling means that the color information is sampled as often as the luminance signal (black and white image), compared to HDCAM's 4:2:2 sample rate where color is sampled half as often. In HDV, the sample rate drops even further to 4:2:0. | With 4:4:4 sampling there is much more data to include in the video stream. It can be recorded at 440 or 880 megabits per second (Mbps) in either SQ or HQ modes. The compression ratio is different; 2.7:1 or 4:1 respectively, for increased quality. By way of comparison, the data rate for HDV is 25 Mbps and for XDCAM HD, 35 Mbps. | SRW-5500 | Frame rate versatility is a feature of most Sony high def decks, but this series has some extras. For standard definition production in North America , everyone shot 30 frames per second (NTSC). In Europe they shot 25 (PAL). But digital high def has made frame rate selection much more interesting and complicated. Each frame rate excels in particular applications. For example, for television sports, 1080i (interlaced) at 59.97 fields per second gives great detail with smooth motion as the camera follows the athletes. For a film look 24p video (24 frames per second, progressive) comes closest to the way the eye sees film, also shot at 24 frames. More specialized, 50P and 60P, with twice as many frames per second as normal PAL and NTSC, provide crisper cleaner freeze frames, without the blur of an interlaced signal. | HDW-1800
